The Best Way
I think I have decided that the best way to start the year is with a self-portrait. Subsequently the same way I plan to end the year. A drawing instructor I once had made us draw a self-portrait at the beginning of the course and then again at the end of the course. It was a very obvious way to show one’s progress and, of course, improvement. So I guess I am stealing this idea from her.
Self-portraits are also good because you always have access to your model and its probably the subject matter that you know best above all. Right?
I started mine tonight. I’m using a reference photo that I took tonight - yes, I’m that sad - because I don’t want to have to try and get the same expression and pose and crap. After all, I’m so not a model.
And I’ll be able to work anywhere I am which is nice and handy.
I haven’t made a lot of headway - mainly just an outline and the beginning part of the eye - which explains the lack of progress photo. Plus, to make matters a bit more tricky, I am busting in a new scanner as well as a new sketchbook. And neither seem to wanna play nice with the other. Hopefully I’ll have all this crazy business rectified soon.
Tomorrow is First Thursday! Yay. I’ve already made plans to go. I’m pretty excited about the whole thing. I have missed it.
