The crit went ok. Well, actually, it went better than ok. I think I was harder on myself than my instructor was. I usually am. He did agree that there were some problems compositionally. Still, even with the problems, my eggs were among the best rendered, which I know shouldn’t be important at all. But sometimes, a girl is a bit too competitive for her own good.
Despite the crit, I have decided to redo the assignment. Not because Steven asked me to, but because I am anal and I want it to be in a place where I am happy with it. I know what I need to fix and it would just continue to bother me if I didn’t. I don’t need that aggravation. Plus, the assignment isn’t actually due until next week, so that helps.
Additionally, this week’s assignment isn’t as time-consuming. It will likely be quicker than last weeks and its essentially the same assignment. We have to do eggs again. This time, it’s a monochromatic version using watercolour. Since you can cover more of the paper is a relatively faster time with watercolour, I think it will be speedier. Plus, I’m looser when I’m using watercolour - less meticulous and anal. But, my plan is to do the exact same drawing in graphite and watercolour and make a series (or couplet?!) out of it. I’m kind of excited.
In other news, I think I’m going to buy a drafting table. I think the thing I struggled with the most with the original egg assignment was the awkwardness of the size of the paper. I don’t draw big. I paint big, but I don’t draw big. Which isn’t to say I fear big, I don’t. It was just kinda awkward. I had one a million years ago and loved it. I only got rid of it because I had started painting and wasn’t drawing as much as I used to. Since I have fallen in love with the drawing again, this is the next logical step, methinks. The table I am looking at can easily double as a workstation for my laptop when I am not drawing and it will fit nicely in my office cubby-hole. Now the only question I have is.. how much would they ding me for shipping?
A big thanks to Serena for her kind words and encouragement. Sometimes it helps when someone else tells you what you need to hear.
Thank you so much.
And, yeah, the comments were squirrely on yesterday’s post. So if you tried to leave a comment, you might have gotten an error. The code for one of my emoticons (:^) was flaking out my comment script. I’ve fixed it, so you shouldn’t have any more problems. But if you do, please leave me a message to give me a heads up.
Yay, Shan is coming home at the end of this month for a weekend too! I get to see her once a month for the next four months. Weird, but wonderful!
ETA: The ConEd faculty has added a gallery from the show I participated in back in September.
You can see my silly mug on the second page, first row, photos two and three. And wow, my hair has grown from September. Just saying.
