A Girl Needs To Play Sometimes

Title: Adventures with Markers
Size: 11 x 14″
Medium: Prismacolor Markers on Aquabee Manga Artist Paper (110 lb.)
Time: 2.5 hours
Status: Just playin’

Look, a real update. Though, the scan is really awful. I can never get my real work to be represented accurately with this damn scanner. [fist shake] But I digress.

I decided to play around with my Prismas last night. I haven’t really worked with them yet and I’m really a marker newbie, so I wanted to play. And I figured what was a better image than one I have been working on forever. ;)

Anyway, so far? I think I kinda love it. The markers blend quite beautifully - especially when using paper that is much more marker friendly. And I am slowly getting used to the medium itself. It started off a bit tricky. If you look at her face, you’ll see what I mean. The colours are almost tragic. It has potential, but right now it looks like ass. However, by the time I worked on her socks, I was a bit more comfortable.

Even though I’m not thrilled with her face, I’d like to try and finish the piece. It’s a great exercise for me. And is definitely allowing me to gain confidence with the medium. Even if the final piece might not be spectacular.

The only thing I would have to complain about is that I think I need to find better inking pens. The ones I’m using right now are awesome against water-based mediums, but my markers are alcohol-based so the pens bleed a lot more than I want. I might just need to practice with them a lot more. Though, in my research, I did find these. They might be something to try at least - especially since they come from the same manufacturer as my markers. Hm.

Still, I’m having a lot of fun with it. It’s fun to be working in colour again. I think graphite almost ruined me.

On a completely different note, we move in four days! W00t!
